Bill Cosby allegedly gave sedative to young woman he wanted to have sex
Bill Cosby appears to admit for a second time that he obtained a prescription for a sedative so that he could drug young women and have sex with them.
The 88-year-old disgraced actor and comedian made the statement under oath during a deposition for a lawsuit filed by Donna Motsinger, one of the women who accused him of rape.
According to legal documents obtained by celebrity news site TMZ, Cosby received a recreational prescription for quaaludes from a gynecologist at a poker game prior to 1972. He then refilled the medication seven times and said he never took the drug himself.
Quaaludes are a sedative used to relax patients and reduce anxiety while producing effects similar to drinking alcohol. At higher doses, the drug can cause drowsiness and induce sleep.
In the deposition, Cosby named Los Angeles gynecologist and cosmetic surgeon Dr. Leroy Amar as the person who gave him the prescription.
TMZ reports the doctor had his medical licence revoked by California officials in 1979 and died before Cosby gave his deposition. He was described by court documents as a “disgraced” gynecologist who was Cosby’s friend.
Motsinger claims in her lawsuit that Cosby drugged and raped her in 1972 while she was employed as a restaurant server in Sausalito, Calif. She alleged Cosby gave her round and white pills that she believed was aspirin. After taking the pill, Motsinger claimed she had difficulty staying awake and was in and out of consciousness. She woke up the next day in her home with only her underwear on.
The report said Cosby is trying to have the lawsuit thrown out in court.
Details similar to other suit
The details in Motsinger’s lawsuit are eerily similar to a deposition Cosby gave 20 years ago after another woman, Andrea Constand, accused him of rape and sued him.
Documents obtained by CNN in July 2015 revealed that Cosby obtained a prescription for quaaludes from Dr. Amar so he could give the drug to women he wanted to have sex with.
During the deposition, the actor testified that the prescription was for a sore back.
“Did he know when he gave you those prescriptions that you had no intention of taking them?” Constand’s lawyer Dolores Troiani asked Cosby.
“Yes,” Cosby replied.
“Did you believe at the time that it was illegal for you to dispense those drugs?” Troiani asked.
“Yes,” Cosby replied again.
The report said Dr. Amar lost his licence after the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance decided that he had “engaged in most serious misconduct.”
Lawsuit settled
Cosby settled Constand’s civil lawsuit in 2006 by paying his accuser nearly $3.4 million.
He was convicted of sexual assaulting Constand in 2018 and was sentenced to three to 10 years in a state prison. He served two years before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned the ruling in June 2021.
In March 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal from prosecutors.
