A WOMAN who stabbed her pal 19 times when she was just 12 years old and vanished after cutting off her ankle monitor has since been captured.
Convict Morgan Geyser, 23, escaped the group home in Madison, Wisconsin, she was living at and her disappearance sparked an urgent search. Geyser lured classmate Payton Leutner into the woods and stabbed her 19 times to “please” fictional internet character Slender Man.
Wisconsin Department of Corrections officials grew concerned when her ankle tag started to malfunction at around 9:30pm on Saturday night. The agency then contacted the home and staffers reported that Geyser was not inside. Workers also revealed she had taken off her tag.
Geyser was last seen at the group home at 8:15pm. But, cops in Madison were only informed about Geyser’s sudden disappearance hours later on Sunday morning. Cops were only made aware when a missing person report was filed. Geyser was found in Illinois and taken into custody at around 10:35pm
In January it was confirmed that the Wisconsin native would be released into a group living rehabilitation facility after getting seven years of treatment at Winnebago Mental Health Institute.
It came after her fourth request for release since she pleaded guilty to first-degree intentional homicide for the 2014 attack, with a series of doctors vouching for her progress.
Three psychologists who have worked with Geyser over the years said she had made impressive progress.
She stopped taking anti-psychotic medications in 2023 and has shown no symptoms, according to Dr. Brooke Lundbohm.
Dr. Ken Robbins told the court that Geyser was ready to integrate herself back into society and warned that if she didn’t interact with others, she could worsen.
Extreme mental illness drove Geyser to snatch a kitchen knife from her kitchen and lure Leutner, 12, to the woods in Milwaukee suburb Waukesha, prosecutors said at the time.
She was joined by best friend Anissa Weier, who egged her on as she drove the knife into Payton’s body, stabbing her “everywhere,” she said during trial hearings.
After being arrested, Geyser disturbingly said her actions were meant to “please” Slender Man – a creepy internet myth that was said to steal children. The criminal said Slender Man would have taken her from her family if she didn’t do his murderous bidding. Though she survived the attack, horrific crime scene photos give an insight into the pain and torture Payton had to suffer at Geyser’s hand.
After being pounced on by her classmate, little Payton desperately crawled to safety and was found by a brave cyclist. Before they met Payton, Geyser and Weier packed a supply bag with the knife, a notebook, candy, and maxi pads. When cops found them, they both had splatters of blood stained on their clothes. Investigators also found drops of blood that had flown onto tree branches near the attack.
Despite their young age at the time of the crime, both the girls were tried as adults and Geyser was sentenced to 40 years in a secure psychiatric institution while Weier was given 25 years. Weier, who pleaded guilty to second-degree intentional homicide, was granted release in 2021.
