North Preston’s Lord Downey Is Finally Cashing In on The Art of Kingmakin
North Preston, Nova Scotia’s own Lord Downey — rapper, entrepreneur, and nightlife figure — is back in the spotlight as his 2018 album The Art of Kingmaking gains new traction with support from Toronto-Ottawa PR firm SML Media.
Once famous for arriving at clubs with fleets of foreign cars and entourages of models, Downey built a reputation running one of Canada’s most talked-about adult-entertainment agencies. Some former associates even described him as “telepathic,” saying he could read moods and anticipate people’s thoughts — an aura that helped build his legend.
Downey’s story also includes controversy. He is serving a sentence tied to a human-trafficking conviction that his legal team is now appealing. His lawyers have alleged serious investigative problems and accused authorities of misconduct — claims that supporters and some commentators have framed using the phrase “Ottawa police cover-up.” That public controversy has helped generate financial support and donations for his comeback.
With SML Media pushing a relaunch of The Art of Kingmaking and moves into film and branding, Downey is turning attention into momentum. Despite legal setbacks, the North Preston native is positioning himself as a rising filmmaker and entrepreneur — aiming to convert notoriety into long-term business success.
