OPP seize another $79M in illicit cannabis on Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory

Ontario Provincial Police say an investigation into a cannabis production operation on Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory that is allegedly linked to organized crime has led to the seizure of $79 million worth of plants.

This comes after a $122-million seizure earlier this fall, in which 10 people were charged with cultivating or harvesting a cannabis plant or material that is illicit cannabis. Three people were also issued firearm charges, and charges of mischief, and possession of property obtained by crime.

“Enforcement continued with the execution of seven search warrants at six locations on Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory between Wednesday, October 1, 2025, and Tuesday, October 7, 2025,” the OPP said in a news release on Monday.

Officers from the OPP, the Tyendinaga Mohawk Police Service, and the Canada Border Services Agency took part in the operation, which led to 53 charges against 24 individuals. Several of the same individuals charged in the first round of enforcement are facing additional charges.

The OPP said officers seized 46,700 illicit cannabis plants, valued at more than $79 million, four pounds of dried illicit cannabis, a quantity of THC extract, 3.7 million contraband cigarettes and 35,600 kg of fine cut contraband tobacco, with a combined value of more than $9.8 million, commercial-level cigarette production equipment, and other items as offence-related property, valued at approximately $358,400.

This brings the total number of illicit cannabis plants seized to nearly 119,000, valued at more than $200 million.

“The second phase of enforcement has concluded, further exposing the extent to which non-community members have exploited our land for profit,” said Tyendinaga Police Service Acting Sgt. Chris Brinklow.

“A total of 19 non-community members have been charged. These operations have enriched organized crime while offering no benefit to our people. The Tyendinaga Police Service remains committed to protecting our territory and ensuring that those who violate our rights and responsibilities are held accountable.
